SERVICE — ULTRASOUND-GUIDED IV ACCESS

Difficult IV Access, Solved at the Bedside

Specialized peripheral IV placement using ultrasound technology for patients with difficult, limited, or challenging vascular access.

WHAT IT IS

Difficult IV Access

Difficult IV access (DIVA) support pairs a portable ultrasound with a clinician trained specifically in vein mapping for patients whose veins aren't cooperating with a standard stick. Rather than repeating the same approach, we look deeper to find viable vessels above or below the skin's surface, and place a peripheral IV with fewer attempts.

WHEN IT’S USED

Common reasons facilities call us in.

  • Two or more failed attempts by facility staff
  • History of chronic illness, dialysis, or chemotherapy affecting vein quality
  • Dehydrated, obese, or elderly patients with fragile or hard-to-palpate veins
  • Pediatric or anxious patients where minimizing attempts matters
  • ED or ICU volume making a specialized stick hard to schedule
